Stem cell and PRP therapy are forms of the increasing trend to employ Regenerative Medicine, which is a cutting-edge field of medical care aimed at helping diseased or damaged connective tissue or spinal structures to restore more normalized structure and function.
Stem cells are the cells in your body that have the ability to either transform into the specialized cells you need for making new tissue or induce other local cells to do so. With stem cell therapy, the specialists at Michigan Neurology Associates & PC inject the stem cells directly into your injured or diseased joint, tendon, ligament, or disc spaces to accelerate the healing process and regenerate new, healthier tissue. The stem cells the specialists use for therapy come from you.
Platelet-rich plasma is a blood product that contains a concentrated amount of your body’s natural healing elements, including platelets, growth factors, and special proteins. Like the stem cells, when PRP is injected into injured or damaged tissue it helps stimulate healing, so you get better faster. PRP is made from your own blood.
Because both stem cell and PRP therapy are autologous, meaning that the patient is the source of his/her therapeutic cells. The treatment is safe with no side effects. All treatments offered at Michigan Neurology Associates & PC are FDA compliant.

Both stem cell and PRP therapy may benefit conditions such as:
Your specialist at Michigan Neurology Associates & PC caters the treatment to your diagnosis so you get optimal benefits.
Stem cell and PRP therapy at Michigan Neurology Associates & PC may take more than an hour to complete.
For stem cell therapy, your specialist first extracts stem cells from the bone marrow in your posterior pelvic bone with a specialized needle. This only takes about 20 minutes. Then the stem cells are filtered and centrifuged, which takes about 30 minutes. Once your stem cells are ready, your specialist injects the stem cells into the injured areas.
Preparation and treatment for your PRP are very similar to stem cell therapy. However, because PRP is created from your blood, the blood draw may be a bit quicker than the extraction of your stem cells.
Your specialist may suggest you take it easy for a day or two following your stem cell or PRP therapy. You should start to notice an improvement in pain and function within four to six weeks after your treatment with continued benefits up to 6 months.
